Why parents should join in on the photography fun
.

First family photo

How many photos have you taken of your baby since they were born? About eighty-five million, right? Yet how many of those photos have you also appeared in?

Hmm… Cue the crickets chirping, right?

As adorable as they are, there’s no reason that your baby should lap up all that attention on their lonesome. There were two extra special people involved in the creation of said adorable baby, and I always love to invite parents to join in on the fun for some extra special photographs when I conduct a shoot.

Some Mum’s don’t feel comfortable to be photographed so soon after having a baby, and that is totally okay. Being a Mum, whether you’re a newbie or a pro, is exhausting in itself, let alone with the added pressure of looking your best after homing that little one for three quarters of a year. And hey, let’s cut Dad some slack too, he has plenty of sleepless nights up his sleeve too (and plenty ahead of him, might I add…). Parenting is hard work, and we don’t always feel our best in the midst of it.

My job is to make my clients feel comfortable, relaxed and beautiful (whether my client is a newborn or a fully grown adult), and to snap some beautiful photos that give everyone that warm and fuzzy feeling upon that first glance of your final shots.  I have a particular soft spot for family photos, which is why I’m so passionate about including Mum and Dad in at least a few snaps. After all, your family involves each and every one of you.

Family photos bring an extra special touch to a home, showcasing your love and unity in a timeless way that can be enjoyed for years to come. I always invite parents to embrace the camera together, complete with their little one/s to ensure nobody misses out. Family photos, as dorky as some might think, are special and unique in their own way – After all, nobody else has your family! Time flies, families grow and all of a sudden your baby is a grown child in the blink of an eye, so why not capture those first moments as a growing family for the rest of your life? Family photos are also a fantastic gift for loved ones, no matter the occasion.

As daunting as it may seem, I promise your grown-up child will never say “Wow, I love this family photo… But I kinda wish Mum had waited until she lost her baby weight!” (And if they do, let me talk to them.) Years from now, you’ll be pleased to have a snapshot of that very special moment in time when your family became complete.

I also promise that your family photoshoot will be filled with fun. I love capturing families just being themselves, however that may look. I want you to be comfortable and I want you to feel relaxed. After all, what better gift is there than one of laughter and smiles?

On that note, I invite you to have a second thought about your newborn photoshoot – and to remind yourself what an integral part of your family you are, and how capturing your family as a whole is the greatest investment you can make for your future together.

“A good snapshot keeps a moment from running away.”

What a wonderful reminder. Yes, we must exist in photographs and memories!

I love this! I try to snap a shot of my seniors with mom at the end of their session! This year I’m going to offer complimentary family sessions for senior clients!

Thanks for sharing your work!

Beautiful images and the words that go with it! I wish I had taken pictures with my children!

Great way to remind how important it is to be in your family images, for yourself and your children! Forever memories that cannot be replaced.

Some excellent points! I definitely wish I had more photos of me with my kids.

Lovely parent and baby photos!

Excellent post and beautiful images. This is a great reminder, we need to be on photographs.

Parent posing in newborn photography is soooo important. It is great to have a newborn photographer that realizes this and encourages both parents to be in the portraits with their babies!
